The rule: in the UK and EU, 26 specific fragrance allergens (Limonene, Linalool, Citronellol, Geraniol and others) must be listed by name when present above a set level. Everything else in the scent can stay hidden behind the single word “fragrance” or “parfum”.

So a label can look short while still containing dozens of undisclosed aroma chemicals.
