How-to guide

How to Build a Simple Routine for Sensitive Skin

Sensitive skin does better with less, not more. Here's a minimal, low-irritation routine and how to add to it safely.

Less is more

Reactive skin is usually happier with three good steps than ten clever ones. Start minimal, get it stable, and only then consider adding actives.

The core routine

  1. Cleanse gently with a mild, fragrance-free cleanser and lukewarm water.
  2. Moisturise with a fragrance-free, barrier-supporting cream (ceramides, glycerin, squalane) while skin is still damp.
  3. Protect with a daily SPF labelled for sensitive skin; mineral formulas (zinc, titanium) tend to suit reactive skin.

Adding to it safely

Introduce one new product at a time and leave about a week before the next, so if something flares you know exactly what caused it. When skin is upset, simplify rather than pile on more.

Keep your products honest

Whatever you add, check it against your own triggers. ClearaScan flags the ingredients you avoid on any product you scan, and keeps a Reaction Journal, a shared Care Circle so others can scan for you, and a Trusted Products list of the items that work for you. (We co-founded ClearaScan and are not paid to mention it.)

A note on this content. The Sensitive Skin Lab publishes general educational information, not medical advice. If you suspect you have an allergy or sensitivity, consult a qualified dermatologist or allergist. Product formulations and labels change without notice, so always check the ingredients on the product itself.
